Dr. Charles Essex, MD is a Family Medicine Specialist with over 42 years of experience in the medical field. After graduating from the Medical School at The Medical College of Wisconsin in 1979, Dr. Essex completed his residency in Family Practice in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1982. His professional interests include preventive medicine with emphasis on lifestyle coaching, staying up to date with new developments in medicine, behavioral health management, and minor surgical procedures.
Dr. Essex has always been a people person with a fascination for science and how things work. Medicine was the logical field to combine his interests, and Family Practice offered the breadth of practice and information to keep his curiosity satisfied. Most important is how much he enjoys seeing children as patients and relate to them on their level much to parent’s amusement. After his medical residency, Dr. Essex spent 4 years as a US Navy medical officer on a Marine Corps Air Station. In a prior practice, he was a Senior Aviation Examiner for the FAA, but now can do the Basic Med flight exams for private pilots.
Dr. Essex lives on 182 timbered acres in Dallas with his wife, 3 dogs, 4 horses, 3 cats at the barn, and 17 chickens. They have four grown children and two grandchildren. In his time off, Dr. Essex enjoys cooking, riding his horse on the trails, gardening, and welding. He owns a big shop where he can build things, saw his own lumber on a mill, and have the tools to finish it. The sign on his shop wall says, “You break it, I fix it”.
